I have no direction right now.

I've been working on a goal for the past six or seven months, and it ended yesterday. Now I have to wait, but in the meantime, I don’t know what to do.

All my time, energy, and attention were on this goal, and now that it's done, I sit here not knowing what to do with my time, energy, and attention—so I sit, observe, and write.

I don't have a specific direction at the moment, as I'm waiting for a response. So I'm sitting here with no other purpose than to enjoy this moment, on being here and putting all my time, energy, and attention into it.

I can’t sleep. I keep turning over in bed, but I remain awake. I check my watch and see it’s 6:00 a.m. So, I get up and go for a sunrise walk. I take an unusual route and just walk. I see the sun slowly rising as I explore the new surroundings, I stop every now and then to capture the buildings and people walking around. When my thoughts get heavy, this is what I do: I walk, letting myself be distracted by what’s around me while my mind sorts itself out.

I wander, searching for the place—a spot where I can sit, have coffee, and journal. But nothing calls to me, so I keep moving, exploring these new streets, watching people, cars, and motorcycles drift past as the sun climbs higher. Eventually, I reach an intersection and no longer feel like walking. I look around and notice a vegan café across the street.

I arrive and see the place is full inside; the waiter informs me there’s only seating outside. That’s fine with me; I enjoy people-watching, and I know the sun will find me out there soon. There are three tables on the patio, and I choose the one in the middle.I pull out my journal and begin unloading my thoughts.

A woman sits at the table to my left; I smile at her and return to my writing. Thoughts drift in and out like fish swimming by, and I try to catch them one by one. But they’re fragmented, not connecting. The waiter comes, and I feel like having an Americano today. He leaves, and I close my tablet—the journaling isn’t helping.

I feel limited. I observe the world move in front of me—Everyone is going somewhere, while I'm here in the middle of nowhere. I simply observe the street in front of me and cars passing by like the thoughts in my mind, but nothing seems to land. My coffee arrives, and so does hers.

I pull out my camera to take a few photos and notice the battery is at 0%—just a few shots left. This limitation makes me mindful of every shot. It pulls me back into the moment. There is something in me telling me to talk to the woman next to me, but I sit with this feeling before acting on it.

The woman next to me asks for the bill, and I feel like I must take my shot now. So I do. I tell her my name is Alex, and that I'm a photographer visiting Barcelona. I ask if she’d be comfortable with me taking her photo. She smiles and agrees, telling me her father is a nature photographer. I mention my camera battery is nearly dead, so I’ll only get a few shots.

Before I start, I talk with her a bit, hoping to ease into the moment and make her feel at ease too. She shares that she’s here on holiday, needing time for herself. When I ask her what’s different about being here and there, she explains that back home, she’s always busy, bound by schedules and responsibilities, with no time left for herself. Here in Barcelona, there’s no plan—she just goes with the flow.

I relate to this, and I ask her, “Is that why we run away from home? To escape the monotony, the familiar?” She laughs, nodding. “Yes! Here, I can just be, without worrying about what’s next.”

I thank her for her time, taking a few portraits before wishing her a good day. As she leaves, I notice her coffee cup and water glass left behind. There’s something about them, a lingering essence that feels like a piece of her stayed.

Maybe we’re drawn to escape because we haven’t learned to create adventure in our daily lives. So, we seek it elsewhere, craving that feeling of living in the moment, of welcoming the unknown.

And I start to wonder. What am I running away from? Why am I here, at this table? I think I know the answer, but I push it aside. It's easier to deny things sometimes, but they somehow catch up with you eventually.

Mistakes are feedback, nothing more. They serve as guiding lights when I’m exploring new territory, showing me what works and what doesn’t. Fear of making mistakes can hold me back, confining me to what’s familiar and making me miss opportunities to improve.

Mistakes open new paths, adding freshness to my process. With each mistake, I make adjustments—each tweak leads to different outcomes. These experiences build a solid foundation for better decisions.

Mistakes are packed with insights. Every time I make one, it gives me valuable information about what’s right or wrong in different situations. The more I step into the unknown, the more mistakes I’m likely to make—and that’s okay. Mistakes mean I’m pushing beyond my comfort zone, stepping into spaces where I’m learning something new.

They’re proof of progress, backing up my decisions and making them stronger over time. Without mistakes, there’s no tangible evidence of growth. They create the foundation for understanding what works, which allows me to speak with conviction. I can’t simply rely on others’ experiences; I need to make my own mistakes and arrive at my own conclusions.

Mistakes are essential to mastery. They’re the groundwork of real knowledge, and I can’t teach or advise others if I haven’t learned from my own experiences.

Cuanto más me adentro en lo desconocido, más errores es probable que cometa—y eso está bien. Los errores significan que estoy empujando los límites de mi zona de confort y aprendiendo algo nuevo.

Running a business constantly pushes us out of our comfort zone, challenging us to evolve and become the person who can create the life we desire. Sometimes, I forget that change is a natural part of this journey. It's not the change itself that causes tension, but our resistance to it.

Maybe growth is about embracing each version of ourselves that we meet along the way and letting go when it’s time to make space for something new. As a solopreneur, I'm learning to make peace with change, recognizing it as the one constant in this lifestyle.

Things are always shifting, urging us to adapt and grow. I love this lifestyle—the highs and lows make it an adventure. There’s always a new goal, something to improve or fix. It reminds me that being a solopreneur is a journey without a final destination. It's all about the path, the evolution, and the excitement of reaching the next stop.

Dirigir un negocio nos empuja constantemente fuera de nuestra zona de confort, desafiándonos a evolucionar y convertirnos en la persona capaz de crear la vida que deseamos. A veces, olvido que el cambio es una parte natural de este camino. No es el cambio en sí lo que causa tensión, sino nuestra resistencia a él.

Tal vez el crecimiento se trate de abrazar cada versión de nosotros mismos que encontramos en el camino y de dejarla ir cuando es necesario para hacer espacio a algo nuevo. Como emprendedor, estoy aprendido a hacer las paces con el cambio, reconociéndolo como la única constante en este estilo de vida.

Las cosas siempre están cambiando, invitándonos a adaptarnos y crecer. Me encanta este estilo de vida; los altibajos lo convierten en una aventura. Siempre hay una nueva meta, algo que mejorar o solucionar. Me recuerda que ser emprendedor o solopreneur es un viaje sin destino final. Se trata del camino, de la evolución y de la emoción de alcanzar la siguiente parada.

As an entrepreneur, I’ve come to realize that the path to growth is not always straightforward. It’s a journey filled with constant change and challenges that push us to evolve. Along the way, I’ve learned a few key lessons that have shaped my perspective on running a business and embracing the ups and downs of this lifestyle.

Aprendizaje

Como emprendedor, me he dado cuenta de que el camino hacia el crecimiento no siempre es directo. Es un viaje lleno de cambios constantes y desafíos que nos empujan a evolucionar. A lo largo del camino, he aprendido algunas lecciones clave que han moldeado mi perspectiva sobre cómo manejar un negocio y abrazar los altibajos de este estilo de vida.

1. Crecimiento a través del malestar: Manejar un negocio nos saca constantemente de nuestra zona de confort, ayudándonos a evolucionar y convertirnos en la persona que puede crear la vida que deseamos.

Some places are impossible to forget, especially the ones where we grow—or better yet, become someone new. These places hold a part of us, a memory of someone we once were, and it's not the place we reminisce about, but the part of ourselves we met or left behind.

People, streets, food, and other experiences can remind us of who we were, where we used to go, what we used to eat, and why we did what we did. That's what experiences do: they help us remember who we were and are—a blend of many parts we found at different places. Thus, we return to places not just to reconnect with old experiences but also to the parts of ourselves that those experiences brought to life.

Sometimes the fear of change can keep us trapped in the same experiences; suffocating us over time and making us believe we need to run away, find a new home or relationship, and start anew. However, it's not about running away but inviting adventure into our daily lives.

New experiences can deepen our connection with our inner selves. When we feel the urge to travel, it's often because there's a part of us we long to uncover—someone within who can introduce us to something new. These experiences help us grow and reveal new facets of who we are. After all, that’s what experiences do—they bring hidden parts of us to life. [End]

Algunos lugares son imposibles de olvidar, especialmente aquellos en los que crecemos o, mejor dicho, nos convertimos en alguien nuevo.
